In 1979, a group of Ontario Educators were concerned that so many people were embracing computer technology and learning the classroom potential on their own. Consequently, they created the organization that we now know as the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario. (ECOO).
ECOO has been a presence in Ontario Education ever since then. ECOO members have had the benefit of professional experiences like the ECOO Output Magazine, Mini-conferences, Special Interest Groups, Computer Programming Competitions, the Annual Conference, and most importantly, the connections with other computer using professionals. We’ve made the connections; we’ve worked and learned together; we’ve made computer technology an important part of Ontario classrooms.
A look through the Bring IT, Together! #BIT17 conference program reveals a wide variety of interests and expertise when it comes to using computers in the classroom. In our current connected world, the topic of privacy is also a huge issue. Nobody can do all this alone.
At the Bring IT, Together Conference, a new Board of Directors will provide guidance for the organization for the next year.
Your 2017-2018 Board of Directors is:
- Doug Peterson – President
- Peter McAsh – Vice-President
- Andy Forgrave – Secretary
- Jen Apgar – Director-at-Large
- Adele Stanfield – Director-at-Large
- Dominik Kuhn-Bach, Director-at-Large
- Peter Skillen – Director-at-Large
At the time of this writing, the positions of Treasurer, Conference Co-Chair, and Past-President have not been filled. (Update: Harry Niezen has been appointed to the role of Treasurer, and Mark Carbone has agreed to serve as Past President. Watch for the role of Conference Co-Chair to be announced at a later date.)
Your Board of Directors is committed to building on the successes of the past with an eye towards providing an increasingly relevant and growing organization for all Ontario computer–using educators. We will continue to learn and grow from each other. We will use the best tools available to support member learning. We will honour the work of those who have gone before us and push for more. We know that you expect nothing less from your Board of Directors.
Beyond the conference, please stay connected with us.
