Summary of ECOO Board Meeting – June 8th, 2020.
Your ECOO Board of Directors met on Monday, June 8th, 2020 for its regular monthly meeting. The meeting commenced with the reading of the Board’s Human Rights Statement.
Highlights from the June 8th meeting include include:
Pandemic Response – Support for ECOO members and Ontario Educators continued in May with the following:
14 new posts on ECOO.org, incorporating:
- 81 education events promoted since May 1st (with 18 remaining between now and June 29th)
- 9 additional episodes of the Ontario: Learning Together at Home podcast, for a current total of 18 episodes.
- An end-of the year celebratory post, entitled “Perspective. They All Saw a Grad,” that received considerable traction on Twitter.
In addition, the category of Education Not-for-Profits was added to the Resources pages, showcasing 17 <can code> and related organizations operating in Ontario that support educators and students.
Page visits to ECOO.org in May reached a new all time high (more than any other month since April 2013, surpassed only by the site traffic during the October 2013 BIT conference premiere).
Our message of collaboration and working together, supported by the hashtag #OntarioEducatorsUnited, continues. Tweets celebrating the efforts of our peers and promoting the concept of personal wellness continue daily.
BIT20 Update – The Administrative Committee with OASBO-ICT continues to meet. Further details will be provided when available.
ECOO Update – ECOO Updates mailings to the membership and Life Members continued in May, emphasizing key events from the Events schedule, the Ontario Learning Together at Home podcast. In addition, Members were prompted to update their membership profile (Twitter, Blog URL, current role) via a link in their personalized email.
Membership – The embedded pop-up and sign-up forms on the site have generated an additional 50 members since the site refresh.
Bylaw Review – The Bylaw Review committee set 2 dates for working meetings during July and August.
Treasurer’s Report – The Board received a report from the Treasurer related to recent income and disbursements.
Board Deliberation – The Board of Directors spent time together in a working session discussing the current events that have all of us reflecting on systemic racism. As a group we came back to our Equity Statement and discussed how we must do better. We are reflecting on our implicit biases as individuals and as a collective, and are working to develop concrete actions that will help ECOO continue to grow and support educators and students in this area.
ECOOcamp Ontario – A motion at the November 2019 board meeting had put plans in place to undertake 5 ECOOcamp events in the 2019-20 term, but the arrival of the pandemic in March put a halt to all planning for face-to-face events. However, representatives from a number of intended sites are now working with ECOO to produce ECOOcamp Ontario, an online, province-wide conference to take place this August. Call for proposals will go out this week, with promotion and registration information out to ECOO members and school boards next week. We’ll see you there in August! #ECOOcampON
