The Future of ECOO PDF Print E-mail
After the incredible success of last week's 30th anniversary ECOO conference, we are calling upon both ECOO members and other interested educators to take an active role in shaping the future of ECOO. Although many think of ECOO as an event, it is and can continue to be much more than that. The Educational Computing Organization of Ontario is a recognized subject/interest group, with participation at the Ministry's Curriculum Forum consultation table and strong ties with the Ontario Teacher's Federation. Beyond the conference, ECOO-CS continues to run highly successful programming contests for Secondary students as it has
for many years and ECOO has sponsored a number of events over the past year to help move our common vision forward. It is our sincere hope to continue in this regard.

As an incorporated body, the ECOO organization is governed by a Board of Directors. This steering group helps sustain the operations of ECOO from year to year, as well as supporting the efforts of the Conference Committee. In order to meet our obligations under the Ontario Corporation act, there are a number of key positions that need to be filled on the Board of Directors. It is our sincere hope that as a supporter of ECOO you will seriously consider standing for one of these positions. Should we be unable to fill these positions after our next meeting, the Board will have no choice but to begin dissolution of the ECOO organization, something that we certainly hope to avoid. Despite this serious need, ECOO is in good shape organizationally and has some financial reserves to pursue new ideas in the next year. With your involvement and support the future can be even brighter.

An annual general meeting of ECOO members and interested friends will be held Thursday December 10th at 8:00 pm. If you think you might be willing to take on one of the roles outlined below, please fill out this form so we can better gauge interest.

Please feel free to share this message with other Ontario educator's that you feel may be interested.

Sincerely,

Tim Hawes

President of ECOO
(on behalf of the Board of Directors)

  • A cultural event or time
  • A prominent event from your life
  • A personal observance or day of remembrance

CONTEST PERIOD
