As the field of AI becomes a more pervasive element of our lives, it is important to highlight its ethical and societal impact. Our team at CARE-AI* and Creative Encounters (University of Guelph) believe that educators have a wonderful opportunity to teach AI ethics at the high school level, engaging students to think and reflect critically about these technologies. Our team has developed an interactive module to teach AI ethics. Our module focuses on key concerns of the field, approaching them through subjects that have appeal to students such as AI in science-fiction, recommendation algorithms used by TikTok, the use of AI in hiring processes, and self-driving cars. These topics and related ethical concerns are approached through the use of dynamic videos and games, knowledge checks, and discussion questions. We hope to foster excitement from both students and educators about the importance of thinking about and engaging with AI in a way that is critically and ethically focused. This freely accessible module is designed for both classroom use and independent learning, and is part of an eCampusOntario 6-module Thriving in the Age of AI course created in partnership with Ontario Tech University and Ryerson University. *Centre for Advancing Responsible AI
