The learning goal for this presentation is to inform teachers on how we can embed SEL practice in our math curriculum. This is done by immersing ourselves in the power of stories and ensuring that all students are being seen and reflected in math programming. We want to ensure that we are decolonizing our teaching methods and finding ample variety and differentiation in our assessment practices. We offer strategies and methods to help create a rich and meaningful program for students, where they see themselves reflected, and they can begin to embrace the curriculum. The 3 A’s of SEL in Math are Alienation, Access and Assessment, and we touch on all three of these concepts in order to optimally embed SEL in math programming.
