Indigenous Cooking, with a dash of Artificial Intelligence!
Our ECOO Support Series – Winter 2022 kicks off this month with an amazing two-part workshop! We invite teachers of all subjects and grades to learn how to integrate AI education into their classrooms!
Part One: On January 12th, we will host an evening, teacher-focused training workshop where we will introduce the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it is able to make predictions using a neural network. Using an interactive online app, we will take a look at the basic building blocks of neural networks and learn how to integrate this format into your classroom! We will go over how to build your own neural network based on your student’s grades, subjects, and lessons. You will learn how to spark discussions with your students around ethics & inclusivity.
Part Two: On January 26th, we invite you and your students to join us during the school day for a live headlining event with special guest, Xaxli’p First Nation chef, David Wolfman!
Learn about traditional Indigenous cooking practices from Chef David Wolfman and how to use an AI Neural Network simulator to generate new pie recipes for a restaurant! You will learn about how data can be biased and how excluding cooking from a wide array of cultures can have negative impacts. This can lead to missing out on the rich diversity of experiences that can be shared from other cultures, and risk marginalizing those communities. We then show how you can build your own model from your interests using our NN simulator. We also build real-world AI like the YouTube recommendation engine to open up the black box that is AI!
We extend a huge shout out to our friends at STEAMlab, Amazon Future Engineer, Kids Code Jeunesse, and Actua for making this activity possible!
Between the first and second part of the workshop, teachers are invited to incorporate the web application and AI education into one of your lessons so your students are well prepared for the live event!
