Summary of ECOO Board Meeting – May 2nd, 2022.
Your ECOO Board of Directors met on Monday, May 2nd for the regular ECOO business meeting. The meeting commenced with the Land Acknowledgement and reading of the ECOO Human Rights Statement.

The board began with a work session to review the current initiatives and plans for the coming year.
Recent Programming : The Events Chair provided details regarding recent virtual events:
- Spring Support Series: available recordings on the Spring Support Series page
- The Amazon Future Engineer events have been engaging.
- The book club ‘The Children’s Machine: Rethinking Schools in the Age of the Computer,” moderated by Peter Skillen and Brenda Sherry from CanCodeToLearn.ca, has been generating some amazing discussion and includes participation of two educators who are subjects of the studies in the book.
BIT Bring IT, Together!: The #BIT Bring IT, Together! administrative committee comprised of ECOO and OASBO-ICT are currently looking at the option of hosting a face-to-face event in the spring of 2023. (details)
ECOOcamp Ontario 2022: ECOOcamp Ontario is returning again this summer! Put August 23-25 on your calendar, and plan on joining us at the end of the summer to re-engergize and re-connect with your colleagues and peers.
Hackathon and ECOO-CS Programming Contest: The ECOO-sponsored Lyonhacks II Hackathon 2022 was a success, running from April 15-17. The hackathon provided competitive challenges for students to design and pitch a program.
ECOO Board Member Valentina Krasteva (William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute) and Dr. Sam Scott (Mohawk College) have agreed to coordinate and plan the return of the ECOO Programming Contest for the spring of 2023.
Expanding our District Level Contacts: The ECOO Board continues to build relationships with school districts to ensure educators have news and access to ECOO events. This will be a major focus through the spring and summer.
Financial Report: The Board reviewed the draft Financial Reports for the fiscal year 2022, which ended March 31. The HST Return 2022 has been submitted and the Corporate Return 2022 is in preparation.
