Educator Session
Reframing Digital Citizenship: Building an Empowered Community of Digital Learners
Marni Reijmers & Tressa Rozendal & Gillian Siegwart
Come join us as we share our quest to reframe Digital Citizenship in our school board away from the traditional focus born out of fear and negativity (the “Don’ts”) to one of inclusivity, empathy and action and towards creating positive online identities, spaces and communities. (“The Do’s”).
To guide our work, we asked, what IF Digital Citizenship….
• was seen as “everyone’s work”, and focussed on the community vs. the individual?
• wasn’t seen as one more thing on teachers plates, but rather a thread that weaves in and throughout ALL learning.
• was not a “stand alone” topic, but integrated across curriculum, and connected to equity, mental health & pathways planning work?
Digital Citizenship is connected to so much of the work that we already do as educators! During this session, we will be highlighting some strategies & ideas for integrating the 5 Competencies of Digital Citizenship (Inclusive, Alert, Informed, Engaged & Balanced) from K through 12, across the curriculum.
