Jen Apgar Director at Large

I am honoured to be nominated for the position of Director-at-Large for the Board of Directors of the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario (ECOO).

My experience to date with ECOO has included presenting and attending (2014- present) at the ECOO/BIT Conferences and I see great potential in this organization developing its breadth, depth and scope of influence in the landscape of teaching and learning organizations across the province

As an empathetic and curious connector, I have found myself growing my learning network through social media. I approach teaching, learning and problem-solving through a collaborative lens, with learning for ALL as the primary goal. I use my social media space to provoke thinking, within the themes of play, passion and purpose. To this end, my goal is not to be an “#EdTech Rockstar” but rather to build and grow reflective practice around deeper learning and global competencies to meet the needs of today’s learners (adults and kids).

Connections do create opportunities to share one’s voice in different places and I strive to deliver a message that provokes critical thinking and respects the diverse learning needs of any audience. I am a playful person who likes to model taking smart risks and being intelligently disobedient with the goal of new learning. I am not a recipe follower and I am an outside of the box thinker, but I know that when I work in teams it isn’t all about me, and cooperation is not the same thing as collaboration. While I tend towards divergent thinking and like to look at the big picture, I also love to zoom in and solve problems. My toolkit is always evolving, shifting and growing as I gain new experiences through my broad and diverse learning connections.
